Unit Price vs. Specification Control
Look Beyond the Quoted Unit Price In custom PE-bag procurement, the lowest quoted unit price does not necessarily produce the lowest landed cost. Film thickness, dimensional tolerances, order-quantity tolerances, packing configuration, freight terms and rejected-product risk can all affect the final cost per usable bag. Buyers should compare quotations against the same approved specification rather than comparing unit prices alone.
Define Thickness Correctly The purchase specification should state the nominal thickness, whether it is measured per film layer or as total thickness, the permitted tolerance and the agreed inspection method. A supplier may intentionally target above the nominal gauge to reduce the risk of thin areas, but the resulting material weight can affect bag yield, carton weight and freight cost. The actual commercial effect should be calculated from approved samples and production inspection data.
Project-Specific Thickness Control Flexon Pack can review a target thickness tolerance during specification development. A target of ±5% may be considered for eligible constructions, but it is not a universal tolerance for every material, width, thickness, printing configuration or bag format. The tolerance becomes binding only when it is stated in the approved quotation, product specification or quality agreement.
How Buyers Should Verify Production Thickness should be checked across multiple positions and samples using an agreed measurement procedure. The inspection record should identify the purchase order, product specification, production lot, nominal gauge, permitted tolerance, sampling plan and measured results. For critical applications, buyers may also specify dimensional, seal-strength, zipper-performance, tensile or puncture tests as applicable.
Evaluate Yield and Landed Cost A useful supplier comparison includes bag weight, accepted quantity tolerance, bags per carton, carton dimensions, pallet configuration, freight basis and the number of conforming bags received. Flexon Pack does not claim a fixed logistics-saving percentage because the outcome depends on the bag specification, order volume, packing method, shipping route and comparison baseline.
Information Required for a Comparable Quote Provide the finished width and length, nominal single-layer thickness, permitted tolerance, PE grade or blend, closure type, printing requirements, order quantity, annual demand, inspection criteria, packing method, delivery destination and Incoterm. If an existing bag is being matched, send a representative physical sample and identify which characteristics must be reproduced.
Evidence Boundary Equipment descriptions and general capability statements do not by themselves prove that every production order will achieve a particular tolerance, yield or machine-running result. Final performance must be established through the approved specification, production-representative sample and applicable inspection records.
