Find the Right Fit

Compare the usable space, not just the bag's outside dimensions. Ask for a dimensioned drawing that defines the width, zipper position and height convention for your quotation.

A · Inside width
The space between the inner edges of the side seals.
B · Usable height below the zipper
The space from below the closure to the inner edge of the bottom seal.
C · Overall height
The outside height, including the zipper area and opening lip.

Allow room for the depth of your contents and for closing the zipper. Confirm dimensional tolerances in the order specification; this illustration is not a quoted size.

What does the thickness mean?

Know Your Film Thickness

Specify thickness per wall, with its unit and agreed tolerance. A measurement through two flattened walls is not the same as a single-layer film thickness.

Material and gauge
Record the selected PE construction and nominal single-layer thickness in the quotation.
Units
1 mil = 25.4 μm. “Mil” means one thousandth of an inch, not a millimetre.
Tolerance and evidence
Agree the tolerance and measurement method. Ask which sample-specific measurement photos or records are available for review.

Select a construction around product weight, edge shape, bag size and handling. Evaluate a sample with your actual contents before committing to a bulk order.

Will the closure suit my application?

Check the Closure in Use

A single-track closure has one interlocking profile; a double-track closure has two. Choose around the contents, required opening force and handling conditions—not the track count alone.

  1. Open and close: check that the selected sample can be closed across the full width and opened as intended.
  2. Pack the actual contents: check fit, closure clearance and contact with the side and bottom seals.
  3. Review the handling: agree any repeated-use, puncture or seal-strength checks needed for your order.

For a useful demonstration, identify the bag size, single-layer thickness, closure type, packed item, item weight and demonstration conditions. Ask about sample availability and the relevant photos, videos or inspection records available for the proposed specification.

A packing demonstration is not a certified performance test. Leak-proof, airtight, sterile or electrostatic-shielding requirements need a separately evaluated construction and agreed acceptance criteria.

Application Guidance

Best Uses for Custom Ziplock Bags

Press-to-close PE ziplock bags provide convenient organization, ordinary dust and moisture protection, and repeated access for industrial parts, samples, retail products and compatible goods.

Recommended Applications

Suitable when the material, thickness and zipper profile are matched to the packed product.

  1. Hardware, Fasteners and Small Parts

Organizes screws, fittings, spare parts and industrial components. Heavy or sharp items may require thicker film and puncture testing.

  2. Retail and Promotional Packaging

Suitable for accessories, samples, kits, promotional products and branded retail packs requiring repeated opening and closing.

  3. Food Organization and Hospitality

Can be configured for food-contact projects when the resin, additives, colorants and printing system are matched to the intended food and supporting report.

  4. Inventory, Samples and Warehouse Identification

Write-on panels, barcodes and custom printing can support sample tracking, batch identification and inventory organization.

  5. Selected Electronic Components

Anti-static PE options may be used when the required surface-resistance range is specified and verified for the application.

Applications Requiring a Different Packaging System

These uses normally require a validated construction, documented test method or specialist packaging system.

  1. Sterile or Validated Medical Barrier Packaging

A standard ziplock bag is not a sterile barrier and should not be used as primary sterile medical packaging without dedicated validation.

  2. Long-Term Liquid Storage or Transport

Press-to-close seals should not be assumed to be leak-proof. Liquid applications require a tested seal structure and defined acceptance criteria.

  3. Vacuum, Retort or High-Temperature Processing

Standard LDPE ziplock bags are not designed for retort, boiling, oven use, hot filling or vacuum-processing conditions unless separately engineered.

  4. Hazardous Materials or Dangerous Goods

Chemicals, infectious substances and regulated dangerous goods require packaging tested and approved for the applicable transport or containment standard.

  5. Electrostatic Shielding

An anti-static PE bag is not the same as a static-shielding bag. Sensitive electronics may require metallized or multilayer shielding packaging with verified performance.

For sterile, liquid, high-temperature, dangerous-goods or electrostatic-shielding applications, request a separate technical review instead of specifying a standard press-to-close bag.

Confirm Specifications Before Production

Review the same specification in your quotation, sample approval and order confirmation. Resolve any differences before authorizing production.

  • DimensionsInside width, usable height, overall height and agreed dimensional tolerances.
  • FilmMaterial construction, thickness per wall, units, tolerance and measurement method.
  • Closure and artworkSingle- or double-track profile, zipper position, approved artwork and optional features.
  • Packing and inspectionInner-pack and carton quantities, label details, inspection scope and acceptance criteria.

Ask which specification sheets, inspection records and packing-label examples can be shared for your project. A material or management-system report does not, by itself, verify the dimensions or quality of every finished batch.

Before You Request a Quote

A few final checks on measurement conventions, samples, intended use and order requirements.

Does the quoted height include the zipper and opening lip?

Do not assume one convention applies to every bag. Confirm inside width, usable height below the closure, overall height and measurement points in the dimensioned drawing for your quotation. See the measurement guide.

What material and thickness should I specify?

LDPE, LLDPE and custom PE constructions can be reviewed for the project. State the intended use, product weight, edge shape and handling conditions. Specify nominal thickness per wall, units and agreed tolerance; a thicker film is not automatically suitable for every application. Review thickness and sample checks.

Can I estimate thickness without a thickness gauge?

Bag dimensions and weight can help with a rough thickness estimate, but zipper profiles, printing, material density and other construction details affect the result.

Send us the bag dimensions, the number of empty bags weighed, their total weight and clear photos. Include the measurement units and material, if known. We can review the construction and discuss an approximate thickness.

Weight-based estimates are for preliminary guidance only, not a substitute for agreed thickness measurements or batch inspection.

Discuss my bag measurements.

Can I evaluate samples before placing a bulk order?

Existing samples may be available, and custom-size or printed prototypes can be reviewed. Contact us to confirm the exact sample specification, availability, sample charges, freight and lead time. Evaluate the selected sample with your actual contents.

Is a standard bag suitable for food contact or ESD-sensitive parts?

Suitability must be confirmed for the selected resin, additives, printing and conditions of use. Review applicable food-contact evidence for the proposed construction. An anti-static PE bag is not automatically a static-shielding bag; specify the protection needed for sensitive components. Review the available document links.

What customization options and MOQ can be discussed?

The published ranges are widths of 30–750 mm and single-layer film thicknesses of 30–150 μm, with custom lengths, single- or double-track closures, printing up to eight colors and selected additional features. Availability and mass-production MOQ depend on size, material, closure, printing and packing; confirm them in the quotation.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send the packed product and its dimensions, unit weight, required bag size or reference sample, preferred single-layer thickness, quantity, closure type, artwork, intended use and destination. Include any packing, inspection and document requirements. Send your requirements.
