A flat bag is a simple PE enclosure without an integrated zipper. It can be supplied open for fast filling or closed after packing by heat sealing, tying, taping or another application-specific method.
Side-seal and bottom-seal performance depends on film thickness, bag dimensions, packed-product weight, sharp edges and handling. Standard flat bags are not automatically leak-proof, sterile, vacuum-rated or suitable for hazardous materials.

Sterile or Validated Medical Barrier Packaging
A standard flat bag is not a sterile barrier and should not be used as primary sterile medical packaging without dedicated validation.

Standard flat-bag seals are not designed for long-term liquid containment. Liquid applications require an engineered seal structure and agreed leak-test criteria.

What materials are available for custom PE flat bags?
Standard Flexon flat bags are available in virgin LDPE, selected for flexibility, clarity and low-odor packaging. The exact resin grade is selected according to the packed product and destination market.
Colored, recycled-content and anti-static PE options are also available for suitable applications. These options are quoted and documented separately.
What thickness should I choose for a PE flat bag?
Thickness depends on bag dimensions, packed-product weight, sharp edges, puncture risk and handling conditions. General selection ranges include:
- 30–50 microns for lightweight products
- 50–80 microns for standard retail and general storage
- 80–120 microns for hardware and industrial components
- Up to 150 microns for engineered heavy-duty requirements

How are flat bags closed after filling?
Open-top flat bags can be closed after filling by heat sealing, tape, ties, clips or another packing-line method. Heat sealing creates a permanent closure when the film and sealing conditions are compatible; tape, ties and clips allow easier reopening.
Can Flexon flat bags be used for food-contact projects?
Food-contact options are available when the selected resin, additives, colorants and printing system suit the intended food and conditions of use. Available supporting documents can be reviewed against the exact finished specification.
