Film
Performance Control

PE film performance is controlled through resin selection, blend, gauge, layer structure, winding tension, cling, slip and core format. The correct specification must match the buyer?s machine and load.

Stretch ratio, puncture resistance and load retention are not universal values. They depend on the tested film, application method, pallet geometry, load weight, corners, wrapping pattern and storage conditions.

Custom PE Film Types and Recommended Uses

Compare Flexon’s standard clear, heavy-duty, anti-static and write-on PE film options. Each construction can be customized by dimensions, film thickness, film structure, color and printing according to the packed product and application requirements.

Recommended thicknesses are general selection ranges. Final material, dimensions, zipper construction and performance requirements must be confirmed against the packed product, approved sample and applicable test specification. Standard PE film should not be treated as hermetic, sterile, liquid-proof or electrostatic-shielding packaging unless separately tested.

Compliance Evidence

Available Documents for Custom PE Film Projects

Flexon provides material test reports and management-system documents according to the selected resin, additives, printing system, intended application and destination market. Report scope must be confirmed against the exact specification ordered.

  1. FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 Material Report

    Analytical Report by SGS

Relevant to: selected virgin PE materials intended for food-contact PE film projects.

Coverage must be checked against the tested resin, additives, colorants, printing ink and conditions of use. This report is not blanket FDA approval for every product variant.

  2. PFAS Screening Report

    Screening Report by SGS

Relevant to: buyers requiring PFAS screening evidence for the tested PE material or finished sample.

The report applies to the identified sample and tested substances. Applicability to a destination market must be confirmed against current legal thresholds and the final ordered specification.

  3. RoHS 10 Chemical Test Report

    Chemical Analysis by CTI

Relevant to: selected material specifications for electronics, hardware and other projects requesting restricted-substance testing.

RoHS testing does not prove food-contact suitability, anti-static performance, electrostatic shielding or medical suitability. The report must match the tested sample.

  4. ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Systems

    Quality & Environmental Management

Relevant to: buyers evaluating Flexon’s quality-management and environmental-management systems.

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are management-system certificates. They do not independently certify food contact, thickness tolerance, recyclability or the performance of every finished PE film.

Compliance documents are supplied for evidence review, not as universal approval of every product shown on this page. The approved quotation, resin grade, colorant, printing ink, finished specification and applicable report define the compliance scope for each order. Application Guidance

When to Use — and Not Use — Standard PE Film

Press-to-close PE PE film are designed for organization, repeated access and general product protection. They are not a universal replacement for sterile, liquid-proof, high-barrier or regulated dangerous-goods packaging.

Recommended Applications

Suitable when the material, thickness and film structure are matched to the packed product.

  1. Machine and Pallet Wrapping

Organizes screws, fittings, spare parts and industrial components. Heavy or sharp items may require thicker film and puncture testing.

  2. Protective Wrapping and Bundling

Suitable for accessories, samples, kits, promotional products and branded retail packs requiring repeated opening and closing.

  3. Automated Converting and PE Tubing

Can be configured for food-contact projects when the resin, additives, colorants and printing system are matched to the intended food and supporting report.

  4. Printed and Colored Film Projects

Write-on panels, barcodes and custom printing can support sample tracking, batch identification and inventory organization.

  5. Functional Additive Projects

Anti-static PE options may be used when the required surface-resistance range is specified and verified for the application.

Not Recommended Without Separate Testing

These applications require a different construction, documented test method or specialist packaging system.

  1. Sterile or Validated Barrier Packaging

A standard PE film is not a sterile barrier and should not be used as primary sterile medical packaging without dedicated validation.

  2. Guaranteed Pallet Stability Without Trials

Press-to-close seals should not be assumed to be leak-proof. Liquid applications require a tested seal structure and defined acceptance criteria.

  3. Shrink, Retort or High-Temperature Processing

Standard LDPE PE film are not designed for retort, boiling, oven use, hot filling or vacuum-processing conditions unless separately engineered.

  4. Hazardous Materials or Dangerous Goods

Chemicals, infectious substances and regulated dangerous goods require packaging tested and approved for the applicable transport or containment standard.

  5. Outdoor UV Exposure Without Stabilization

An anti-static PE bag is not the same as a static-shielding bag. Sensitive electronics may require metallized or multilayer shielding packaging with verified performance.

Final suitability depends on the approved material, film thickness, film structure, wrapped product or load, handling conditions and applicable test report. Buyers with controlled or regulated applications should provide the required performance standard before sampling or quotation.

Custom PE Film Buying Guide

Essential answers about LDPE materials, film thickness, zipper profiles, food-contact requirements, customization, MOQ, samples and production lead time.

What materials are available for custom PE film?

Standard Flexon PE film are available in virgin LDPE, selected for flexibility, clarity and low-odor packaging. The exact resin grade is selected according to the packed product and destination market.

Recycled-content PE, anti-static PE and compostable formulations are separate material programs. Their performance, disposal requirements and supporting documents must be evaluated independently.

What film gauge should I specify?

Thickness depends on bag dimensions, load or product requirements, sharp edges, puncture risk and handling conditions. General selection ranges include:

  • 30–50 microns for lightweight products
  • 50–80 microns for standard retail and general storage
  • 80–120 microns for hardware and industrial components
  • Up to 150 microns for engineered heavy-duty requirements

Final thickness should be confirmed through specification review and sample evaluation.

What information is required to specify a PE film roll?

A single-track seal uses one interlocking film structure and is suitable for general storage, retail packaging and lightweight products.

A double-track seal uses two interlocking profiles, providing greater closure redundancy for repeated opening and closing. The correct option depends on roll specification, packed contents, opening force and target cost.

Can PE film be supplied for food-contact projects?

Food-contact options are available when the selected resin, additives, colorants and printing system are suitable for the intended food and conditions of use.

Buyers may request the applicable SGS analytical report against FDA 21 CFR 177.1520. Report coverage must be checked against the exact material and finished specification.

Standard PE film should not automatically be described as hermetic, leak-proof or sterile unless the finished construction has been separately tested.

What sizes, features and printing options can be customized?
  • Custom roll widths, lengths, net weights and maximum diameters
  • Film thicknesses from 30 to 150 microns
  • Roll, sheet or tubing formats
  • Transparent, colored, opaque or additive-modified film
  • Write-on panels, warning text and barcode areas
  • Custom cores, winding direction and export packing
  • Gravure printing in up to 8 colors

Final specifications depend on artwork, film and roll construction, packed-product requirements and production review.

What is the MOQ, and can I receive samples before ordering?

Existing samples may be available for initial material, thickness and construction evaluation. Custom-size or printed prototypes can also be arranged when required.

Mass-production MOQ depends on dimensions, thickness, material, film structure, printing colors and packing requirements. A single prototype is not the MOQ for mass production.

What is the production lead time, and what is required for a quote?

Eligible plain products typically require 7–10 days. Custom production normally requires 15–20 days after material, dimensions, artwork, samples and order details are approved. Shipping time is quoted separately.

For an accurate quotation, provide:

  • Finished width and length
  • Packed product and unit weight
  • Preferred thickness or a physical reference sample
  • Order quantity and expected repeat volume
  • Artwork, printing colors and coverage
  • Destination country and intended application
  • Required food-contact, PFAS, REACH or RoHS documents
  • Packing method and shipping destination
