Custom PE Packaging Quality Control and Inspection Methods

Flexon Pack evaluates custom PE bags and films against the approved order specification. Inspection requirements are determined by the selected material, dimensions, single-layer thickness, printing, bag structure, packing method and intended application.

Inspection Methods

The following inspection categories are selected according to the custom PE packaging order. The inspection plan records the method, equipment, measurement position, sample size, tolerance and acceptance criteria.

Dimensional Control

Bag and Film Dimensions

Inspectors measure the applicable width, length, flap, lip, gusset, opening and other construction dimensions at the defined positions.

Purpose
Confirm fit, packing compatibility and agreed bag construction.
Reference
Approved drawing, order specification or approved sample.
Control Point
Record the measurement position and permitted variation in the approved specification.
Film Control

Single-Layer Thickness

Inspectors measure single-layer film thickness at defined points across the film or finished bag. Folded-bag measurements are identified separately to prevent confusion with the specified single-layer gauge.

Purpose
Monitor film consistency and specification alignment.
Reference
Approved single-layer thickness and agreed tolerance.
Control Point
Use defined measurement points and the agreed sampling frequency to evaluate thickness distribution across the inspected batch.
Seal Inspection

Side Seal and Bottom Seal

Inspection covers the applicable seal position, continuity, contamination, wrinkles, incomplete sealing and visible damage according to the bag design.

Purpose
Identify visible conditions that could affect bag integrity.

Approved construction and application-specific requirements.
Control Point
Set the seal check and acceptance criteria using the packed weight and intended handling conditions.
Closure Inspection

Zipper, Slider or Adhesive Function

Inspection covers the applicable closure alignment, opening and closing action, slider movement, zipper position or adhesive-strip placement.

Purpose
Confirm basic closure function and construction alignment.
Reference
Approved sample, bag design and specified use requirement.
Control Point
Define a repeat-cycle test when repeated opening and closing is part of the application.
Printing Control

Print Position and Appearance

Printing is compared with the approved artwork, color reference or sample for position, registration, visible defects, ink coverage and general appearance.

Purpose
Confirm that the printed result follows the approved design.

Approved artwork, color reference or signed production sample.

Use an approved physical color reference when color matching is critical.
Packing Control

Quantity and Export Packing

Before shipment, inspection covers the applicable inner packing, carton quantity, labels, carton condition, packing marks and pallet requirements.

Confirm packing configuration and shipment identification.

Approved packing instructions and commercial order documents.
Control Point
Match carton, pallet and protection requirements to the agreed shipping and handling route.

Order Inspection Plan

The order inspection plan identifies what is checked, how it is checked, the sample size, permitted tolerance, acceptance criteria and required inspection record. Buyers can add project-specific checkpoints before approving the specification.

Evidence Levels

Visual inspection, internal production checks and independent laboratory testing provide different evidence. The order plan assigns the appropriate evidence type to each product, performance or regulatory requirement.

Level 01

Visual and Dimensional Inspection

Used to identify visible defects and compare dimensions, appearance and construction with the approved specification or sample.

Level 02

Internal Production Checks

Used to monitor selected production variables and finished-product characteristics according to the agreed order plan.

Level 03

Third-Party Laboratory Testing

Used when an application, customer requirement or regulation requires independent testing under a defined method and sample scope.

Evidence matching: Appearance and dimensions are checked through inspection. Material composition, recycled content, food-contact or PFAS requirements are supported through the corresponding material records, traceability and applicable test scope.

Traceability

Order traceability connects the approved specification, artwork and reference sample with the relevant production, inspection, packing and shipment records.

Common questions about PE bag inspection, testing and approval.

Does every PE bag order use the same inspection standard?
Each order uses an inspection plan matched to its structure, material, dimensions, single-layer thickness, printing, intended application and buyer requirements. The approved specification records the applicable checkpoints and acceptance criteria.
How should PE bag thickness be specified?
Specify thickness as single-layer film thickness, together with the unit, measurement positions, sampling frequency and tolerance. If a folded or combined measurement is also used, label it separately from the single-layer gauge.
Can a visual inspection prove that a bag uses virgin or recycled PE?
Visual inspection can identify particles, color, haze, odor and other appearance concerns, but resin composition is verified through material records, traceability and appropriate laboratory analysis when required.
Does an internal inspection replace third-party testing?
Internal inspection controls production and finished-product characteristics. Independent laboratory testing is added when a specific material, performance or regulatory requirement calls for a defined external test method and sample scope.
