Industrial PE Bags: 10 Common Buying Questions

Buying custom industrial PE bags can seem complicated when you are unsure about the material, thickness, size or minimum order quantity.

The good news is that you do not need a complete technical specification to begin. If you can describe the product, quantity and intended use, the remaining details can be confirmed during quotation.

Here are straightforward answers to ten common questions from industrial packaging buyers.

1. Which type of PE bag should I choose?

Choose the bag according to how it will be used:

  • Flat bags: General packing for parts, hardware, apparel and documents.

  • Ziplock bags: Suitable when the bag needs to be opened and closed repeatedly.

  • Slider zipper bags: Easier to operate when frequent access is required.

  • Self-adhesive bags: Useful for apparel, documents and products requiring a flap closure.

  • PE film or tubing: Suitable for wrapping, lining or making bags in-house.

You can compare the available options on the industrial packaging bags page.

2. Should I choose LDPE, LLDPE or HDPE?

For many everyday industrial applications:

  • LDPE is flexible, clear and easy to heat seal.

  • LLDPE is often selected when additional stretch or puncture resistance is needed.

  • HDPE is stiffer and has a different feel from LDPE.

  • PE blends can balance flexibility, strength, clarity and sealing performance.

If you are unsure, tell the supplier what you are packing instead of selecting the material yourself.

3. How thick should the bag be?

The correct thickness depends on:

  • Product weight

  • Sharp edges or corners

  • Bag dimensions

  • Handling method

  • Storage and transportation conditions

  • Required flexibility or stiffness

A heavier product does not always require only a thicker bag. Material, seal design and bag dimensions also affect performance.

If possible, send an existing bag sample or pack the actual product in a trial bag before confirming mass production.

4. How do I determine the correct bag size?

Provide the product’s width, length, height and weight.

The bag normally needs additional space for:

  • Easy loading

  • Product thickness

  • Closure or zipper position

  • Heat sealing

  • Gussets or flaps

Do not assume that the product dimensions and bag dimensions should be identical. Photographs or a physical sample can help confirm the correct size.

5. Can the bags be printed with our logo?

Yes. Industrial PE bags can be customized with:

  • Company logos

  • Product information

  • Warning text

  • Handling instructions

  • Barcodes

  • Identification areas

For a faster review, provide the artwork in an editable AI, PDF or vector format. Also state the required colors, printing position and approximate coverage.

The available printing area may be affected by the zipper, seals, handle or gusset.

6. What is the minimum order quantity?

There is no single MOQ for every PE bag.

MOQ depends on:

  • Bag dimensions

  • Material and thickness

  • Bag construction

  • Printing colors

  • Artwork coverage

  • Packing requirements

Plain bags may have different minimum quantities from custom printed bags. Send the required quantity and expected repeat demand so the supplier can evaluate the project.

7. Can I receive samples before ordering?

Sample options may include:

  • Existing material samples

  • Bags with a similar size or construction

  • Custom-size samples

  • Printed prototypes

  • Pre-production approval samples

Existing samples are usually suitable for checking material and general quality. A custom sample may be required when dimensions, printing or bag construction are critical.

Ask whether the sample represents only the material or the final production specification.

8. How long does production take?

Production time depends on:

  • Order quantity

  • Material availability

  • Printing requirements

  • Artwork approval

  • Sample approval

  • Current production schedule

Shipping time is separate from production time.

For a reliable schedule, confirm the specification, artwork, quantity and destination before asking for the final delivery date.

9. What documents can be provided?

Document requirements depend on the material, intended use and destination market.

If you require food-contact, PFAS, REACH, RoHS or other supporting documents, mention this before quotation. The supplier must check whether the available report applies to the proposed material and finished specification.

Do not assume that one general certificate covers every custom bag.

10. What information is needed for a fast quotation?

Send as much of the following information as possible:

  1. Product being packed

  2. Bag type

  3. Required width and length

  4. Preferred material

  5. Preferred thickness

  6. Order quantity

  7. Printing requirements

  8. Product weight

  9. Destination country

  10. Required documents

  11. Photographs, drawings or reference samples

If you do not know the material or thickness, simply describe the product and how the bag will be used.
